GRE EXAM TIPS & TRICKS

The Graduate Record Examination is the test taken by the Graduates of different fields to pursue their Master’s degree in countries like the USA, Ireland and Canada.

  • This is a Computer-based Test as well as the Paper-based Test.
  • The test is divided into 3 parts: Verbal Reasoning, Analytical Writing, and Quantitative Section.
  • Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning each is of 170 marks. Both of these sections are repeated 2 times. Any one of these sections are repeated again.
  • Analytical Writing is of 6 bands. This section comes at the beginning of the Test.
  • The Quantitative section has basic Maths but on a higher level of difficulty.
  • Verbal Reasoning has different kinds of Fill in the Blanks and Comprehension.
  • The Analytical Writing has 2 different essays namely: Issue Essay and Argumentative Essay.
  • Score Validity: 5 Years

TIPS

  1. Quantitative Section

  • This Section has Maths in it. So, make sure you know the basic math formulas. The topics included are: Arithmetic, Data Analysis, Geometry, and Algebra.

  • Read the Questions very carefully. One silly mistake can cost you your marks.

  • Always Read the Instruction and the Question twice.

  • Make a list of the Formulas needed for the examination.

  • An On-screen Calculator is provided in the Computer Based Test.

2. Verbal Reasoning

  • The candidate must know a minimum of 1000-2000 new words. So, learn 10-15 new words every day.

  • Revise the newly learned words daily.

  • The candidate must also know the synonyms of the new words learned.

  • Practice solving Comprehension daily.

3. Analytical Writing (AWA)

  • Read the Question properly and try to understand it.

  • The Essay should have relevant reasons and Examples.

  • Do NOT stop working on the AWA part of the test.

  • Keep reading different kinds of essays.

  • Do Not Skip the AWA part during the practice tests.

DO’S AND DONT’S (JUST BEFORE THE GRE TEST)

  1. Remember to take your Identification.

  2. Take some snacks for the 10 min break after the 3rd section. (Believe me, you will be hungry.)

  3. Take water in a White Transparent bottle.

  4. Don’t take any pen or paper with you. Scratch Paper and pencils will be provided to you.

  5. AWA will be the first section, so it does not go well do not worry or panic.

  6. Revise the list of formulas you made.

  7. Revise the words once before the day of the test.

  8. Do not give a mock test a day before the main test. Revise whatever you want to and relax!
